Frequently asked questions

Chains & Photography

Chains
If you would like a certain chain length other than what’s listed, please let us know (additional fees may apply). Chains can be crafted in sterling silver, copper, gunmetal, recycled leather, satin rope or hand dyed silk.

Photography
We make every effort to photograph our jewelry as accurately as possible. We photograph our items on a neutral background and do not "Photoshop" any pictures to enhance or change the true color of the stone. Also, due to the wide variety of computer screens and monitors, the color of the stones can differ depending on your color setting on your monitor/screen.

Metals Used and Definitions

There are trade-offs for each metal and process~

Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% alloy metal, usually copper.

Fine silver is 99.9% pure silver but is a softer metal than sterling silver.

Silver-plating is a chemical process that adds a thin layer of silver to the item, which is made of a different metal (typically copper, brass, pewter). Over time, the silver plating can be worn off and the base metal underneath can be exposed. Silver plate is considered the most cost effective/economical alternative to the more expensive forms of solid silver jewelry.

Silver filled is the process of adding a thicker layer of silver mechanically bonded to a base metal.

Care instructions

Pure copper can change color when exposed to air, elements, moisture and oils from your skin (think Statue of Liberty). This is called oxidation. Your skin may turn a green hue due to your own body chemistry. All copper pieces have sealed with Protectaclear to slow this process. Your item may require additional sealant if worn often to avoid oxidation (or if you love it like I do, let it go!) The more you wear a ring the shinier it becomes.

Most find it a favorable trait (greening) as copper has healing properties. From time to time you can use wax or nail polish to guard off oxidation. Polishing copper jewelry (including chain) is as easy as finding an acidic item (lemon juice, vinegar) in the kitchen or simply using a polishing cloth.

If your country is not listed as being shipped to, please send us a convo and we will check the pricing. Also if you buy multiples and we can send in one box to save you shipping fees, we can refund the difference paid.

Gift wrapping and packaging

Wholesale availability

We wholesale many of our items to boutiques. Every item is one of a kind, however many items can be recreating with varying sizes, shapes and colors as no two stones are alike. We are also now on Faire.com and Abound (helloabound.com) search for MergingMetals but be sure to send us your email address prior to ordering! Send us a convo for availability and for more information.

Cancellations

Cancellations are accepted until item is marked as shipped which is usually the same day. We ship VERY fast.

Ring sizing

Generally you would go up 0.25” for ring bands 5-6mm (0.19”-0.25”) wide and 0.5” size for rings 7-8mm (0.27”-0.31”) wide. This is because a wide band allows more space under the band for the finger than narrow rings do. Add an allowance of 0.25 to 0.5 size for rings with wider styles.
Finger sizes are prone to change with temperature, humidity, exercise, what you have been eating, time of day, time of the month, pregnancy and other factors. Your right hand is usually 0.5 size larger, so if you are right handed and have a size 7 ring that fits the left hand it is reasonable to think that a 7.5 will fit the right hand, but again this varies depending on the person. If you’re interested in one of our rings & it isn’t your size send us a convo

Where do we get our stones?

Whenever possible, we purchase our stones directly from small, privately owned mines that are subject to strict environmental and labor regulations. For the most part, they are low-impact, and several are carbon neutral.

Not all crystals come from the traditional mining industry. Many rockhounds, like us, simply locate a known specimen area and start digging. We love to purchase finds from fellow rockhounds. We work closely with mine owners from all over the world as not all stones unearthed or can be found in the United States. We work hard to procure stones that are ethically and sustainably sourced.
